Medicare's Open Enrollment Period Begins Soon



During Medicare’s annual open enrollment period from October 15 to December 7, individuals can join, switch and drop plans (note that the dates are fixed even when, as in 2022, October 15 falls on a weekend). Coverage begins January 1 of the following year. During the open enrollment period, participants can:


  • Switch from original Medicare to a Medicare Advantage plan.

  • Switch from a Medicare Advantage plan to an original Medicare plan.

  • Switch from one Medicare Advantage plan to another.

  • Switch from a Medicare Advantage plan that doesn’t offer drug coverage to one that does.

  • Switch from a Medicare Advantage plan that offers drug coverage to one that doesn’t.

  • Enroll in a stand-alone Medicare Part D prescription drug plan.

  • Switch from one stand-alone Medicare Part D prescription drug plan to another.

  • Drop Medicare Part D prescription drug coverage completely.
